Where Are Pandas’ Habitats
Pandas live in temperate rain forest, which is located on the east of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. In the temperate rain forest, we can find bamboos easily. Qinling Mountains, Minshan Mountain, Qionglai Mountain, Daxiang Mountain, Xiaoxiang Mountain and Big and Small Liang Mountain constitute a zone which full of high mountains and deep valleys. This zone is between Yangtze River's upstream and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Qinling Mountains locate on the south of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Most parts of the mountain are in Foping County. In addition, we can see some parts of the mountain in Yang County. It also covers Taibai County, Ningxia County, Zhouzhi County, Liuba County, and Ningqiang County. Next is Minshan Mountain. Some sections of Minshan Mountain locate in Gansu's Wen County. The remaining of the mountain distributes in Sichuan Province. In Sichuan, it mainly covers Pingwu County, Qingchuan County, and Beichuan County. We can see the mountain in Jiuzhaigou County, Songpan County and Mao County. A few sections can be seen in An County, Mianzhu County, Pengzhou County, Wolong County, Shifang County and Dujiangyan City. Qionglai Mountain mainly covers Baoxing County, Wenchuan County, and Tianquan County. We can see the mountain in Dayi County and Lushan County. A few parts can be seen in Qionglai County, Chongzhou County, Kangding County, Luding County and so on. Big Xiang Mountain and Small Xiang Mountain mainly covers Hongya County and Mianning County. Now how many wild pandas are there in the whole world? It is difficult for us to respond. Because they live in the bamboo forest in the alpine zone, it is hard for people to make a statistics on pandas. In the seventies and eighties, People made two researches respectively. Through these two surveys, people had found about 1000 wild pandas. Maybe this figure was a little low. According to the survey of State Forestry Administration in 2006, there were 1596 wild pandas and 161 captive pandas. Panda should be thought as the most valuable animal in the family of ursidae. As a mammal, it faces the biggest threat of survival. In the 80s of 20th century, it was surveyed that the habitats of pandas were about 13, 000 square kilometers. In 2000 and 2001, the third survey on panda was made by scientists. There were 273 wild pandas in the Qinling Mountains. Moreover, people also found pandas with different colors, which were brown or white. It is surprising.
It is a special beast in our nation, which has two colors: black and white. One hundred years ago, people began to discuss the classification of panda. Through the recent DNA analysis, we know that panda is a kind of bear actually. Moreover, our nation has another method of classification, which is panda subfamily. Actually Chinese scientists traditionally think that panda belongs to Ailuropodidae. It also represents the subfield of ursidae.
