Is a bulls-eye rash a definitive diagnosis for Lyme disease?
I had a bulls-eye rash on my leg a few months ago and have had two negative Lyme tests since. However, I have been advised by the Lyme Association that I need to be persistent and get treated because they said a bulls-eye rash means 100% guarantee of Lyme.
Is this true? Has anyone had an experience where you had a bulls-eye but no actual Lyme or symptoms? I'm not experiencing much in the way of symptoms as of yet except for minor neck pain.
I agree with germ guy. (wow!) Not necceSARILY Lyme causing that bulls-eye, but if U live in the Northeast, it's extremely likely.
IF you told your doc that you Had a bulls-eye ring rash, he/she should've put you ON an abx, not just test you.
It's FAR more effective to treat Lyme early, so if you have gone a "few months" since the rash, it's better to be safe than sorry & ask for a longer protocol than 2 weeks. Many State sites, as well as ILADS, recommend 4-6 weeks of an abx like doxycycline. (sorry, g.guy)
The Lyme spirochete has a growth cycle of ~28 days, & since it is most susceptible to antibiotics during the growth phase ((lasting a couple/few days) it only makes sense to bracket a whole cycle.
A stiff neck IS 1 of the symptoms of early Lyme, so keep vigilant.
(That symptom could be caused by other things..even how you sleep in bed.
